Cosplay Dodge Ball!

A fun event that is exactly as it sounds! Dodge ball in cosplay!
However by no means do we require you wear a costume to play!
It's just optional! This actually sparked from the famous "Risemball"
played between the Risembool Rangers and the Miniskirt Army which
started out at The Middle Tennessee Anime Convention when
Vic (leader of the Rangers) was asked about doing some kind of 'event'
between the two sides. Risemball has been played at a few various
conventions all over the place, however after jumping in to host a
large Risemball tournament that almost didn't happen at Anime Expo we
felt that Risemball should be open to more people then just members or
honorary members of the two groups. Hence, Cosplay Dodge ball was born!
It's a simple dodge ball game that allows people from all walks of the
convention to join! We always have water and a first aid kit available for
all contestants! (although we hope not to have to use the first aid kit!)
Which is where the dodge ball rules do come in. We keep each game to a
limited amount of players rotating teams so that everyone who wants to
play can play while not placing to many people out on the field at any one
time. Though we aim to have fun we are first concerned about the safety
of all players and bystanders.

SIGN UPS
We don't do pre-registration at the moment.
Our reason is simple.. lots of people want to play and we nor the other
players want to wait around for your team to arrive late or simply not
show up. Unfortunately we only get a few hours (usually 2 hours) for
this event at conventions. This leaves us only a short time to register
everyone and be sure they are fully aware of the rules.

We highly encourage you (and your team - ALL of your team) be present
early to sign up for dodgeball. With only a two hour limit we can take
100 entries into the dodgeball game. It seems like a lot but in reality the
turn out is so large we can zip through registering those 100 players in
about10 minutes. So being there at registration On time is the key to
playing.

If you sign up alone we will assign you a team so no worries if your
friends don't wish to play. You will be on a team! (Just be on time!)

Official Rules:

THE TEAM
Teams will be made up of 5 players. Five (5) players will compete
on a side. Substitutes may enter the game only in the case of
injury to one of their teams players.

SUBSTITUTIONS
You may only substitute a member on your team
while your team is not in play. The substituted member must
sign a waver/release form and register at the offical's registration
table. Their registration and waver form will then be stabled to your
team's file, noting the player to be substituted.

THE GAME
The object of the game is to eliminate all opposing players
by getting them "OUT." This may be done by:
1: Hitting an opposing player with a LIVE thrown ball
          below the shoulders.
2: Catching a LIVE ball thrown by your opponent before
          it touches the ground.

Definition; LIVE: A ball that has been thrown and has not touched
anything, including the floor/ground, another ball
another player offical or other item outside of the playing
                   field (wall, ceiling, etc.)

BOUNDARIES
During play, all players must remain within the boundary lines.
Players may leave the boundaries through their end-line only to
retrieve stray balls. They must also return through their end-line.

THE OPENING RUSH
Game begins by placing the dodge balls along the center line –
three (3) on one side of the center hash and three (3) on the other.
Players then take a position behind their end line. Following a
signal by the official, teams may approach the centerline to retrieve
the balls. This signal officially starts the contest. Teams may only
retrieve the three (3) balls to their right of the center hash. Once a
ball is retrieved it must be taken behind the attack-line before it can
be legally thrown.

TIMING AND WINNING A GAME
The first team to legally eliminate all opposing players will be
declared the winner. A 3-minute time limit has been established
for each contest. If neither team has been eliminated at the end
of the 3 minutes, the team with the greater number of players
remaining will be declared the winner.

5-SECOND VIOLATION
In order to reduce stalling, a violation will be called if a team in
the lead controls all six (6) balls on their side of the court for
more than 5 seconds. If any one side controls all six (6)
balls for more then 5 seconds the official will call a time out and
the other team will receive all 6 balls to throw within 5 seconds.
If at least 3 balls fail to be thrown within 5 seconds both teams
are then considered “out” And will not continue on.

*Balls must be kept in play! No hording balls.

RULE ENFORCEMENT
THE COURT MONITOR’S DECISION IS FINAL – NO EXCEPTIONS.

*NOTE: During play, all matches and round finals will be
officiated by no less than three (3) Officials. These officials
will rule on all legal hits, out-of-bounds and 5-second violations.
